September 1969... Talladega
Alabama Motor Speedway was the dream of Big Bill France after the successful opening of the Daytona International Speedway in 1959 in Daytona Beach Fl. France searched for a parcel of land that would be big enough to host the 2.66 mile high banked superspeedway. France found the land half-way between Atlanta, Ga. and Birmingham, Al. in a small township known as Talladega, Al. on the proposed new Interstate 20.
